Updates: Cyclone Mora in Arakan

Arakan: Cyclone Mora have caused mass loss of properties in Maugdaw, Buthidaung and Akyab (Sitwe) townships, especially in Concentrated camps according to updates received.

In Maungdaw thunder, lighting, heavy rain and strong wind once again started from started 08 AM and continued the whole night on 30th May 2017.

In two IDP camps in Sitha Ma Gyi (Sesha fara), Akyab (Sittwe) almost 2/3 of the total camps were totally destroyed yesterday. In one camp out of 235 houses 105 houses were destroyed and in another camp out of 300, 130 houses were reported to be destroyed in cyclone Mora.

According to Reuters report Authorities sent out 350,000 people from the effects of Cyclone Mora in Bangladesh. The storm caused severe damage to refugee camps housing Rohingya refugees from northern Arakan State near Cox’s Bazar,where almost 10,000 thatched huts in the Balukhali and Kutupalong camps were destroyed injuring many Rohingyas in the region.

Uptill now no reports of any assistance and humanitarian aid provided to Rohingya haven’t been received for Rohingyas. Moreover locals seems to expect least from any governmental bodies and urges all responsible bodies and organizations for support and assistance in this Cyclone Mora.
