Kyauktaw, Arakan– Two Rohingyas, father and son, were abducted by Police in Kyauk Taw Twownship on 5th July 2013. Nothing has been heard from them since then and hence they are kept incommunicado.

“Marish Tol (45) and his son, Mohammed Shuaib (25) hail from the village of Zailla Fara (Paik Thay) of Waggan Village tract, Kyauk Taw Township. They were arrested by Police at 4PM on 5th July 2013 under a lame accusation of harassing a Rakhine woman” said a local Rohingya in Kyauktaw.

“They were making some money selling fish. So, Rakhine Police had become malicious and arrested them for nothing. They were beaten, tortured and kept out of contact. It is rumored that they were taken to Sittwe prison. Their family is extremely worried” he added.

While in Pauktaw and Sittwe (Akyab) townships, the internally displaced Rohingyas in the camps are facing severe starvation and lack of access to medications.

“Rakhine extremists and some young monks are blocking our access to livelihoods and medical treatments. A Few people have already died. Now, we are already in the month of Ramadhan (the fasting month) and still facing the same starvation. We don’t know what will happen to us yet.

And we request to international community and other well-wishers to provide us some assistance on the ground of humanity so that we can solve our temporary crisis” exclaimed a displaced Rohingya living in the camps of Sin-Htet-Maw (Sandama), Puaktaw Township.
