Strong Winds and Heavy Rains Cause Floods in Arakan Once Again

By Shafey Uddin

Kyauktaw, Arakan (Rohingya Vision) — The continuous strong winds and heavy rains have caused floods in Arakan state once again.

The townships reported to have been affected by the floods are Kyauktaw, Punna Gyun, Mrauk-U (Patthar Killa), Minbyaa and few others. The flooding that began yesterday morning has left hundreds of homes submerged in the townships.

Rohingya households in ‘Bahar Fara’ village of Kyauktaw, Siddirkul village of Punna Gyun and others have been largely affected by the floods because they are hardly receiving any aids from the government’s rescue teams.

On the other hand, Rakhine families affected by the floods are reported to have been being offered help by the authorities.

It was in June 2015 that a devastative flooding took place in Arakan state for the last time.
