Sittwe (Akyab), Arakan state– Sittwe Police arbitrarily arrested and tortured an internally displaced Rohingya on 20th April 2014 night. They released him the next day confiscating the money (Kyat 3,000) he had.

“Mohammed Hashim (son of) Mohammed Sayed (Age 33) is an internally displaced Rohingya living in a Thakkay Pyin (Sakki Fara) IDP camp, Sittwe (Akyab) township. He was arbitrarily arrested by Police of Manzi-junction station on his way back home from work at Thay Chaung village around 8:00PM on 20th April 2014. He was brutally beaten up by the police the whole night. They confiscated his money, Kyat 3,000.

He was in Police custody until 10AM on 21st April 2014. He was released afterwards on the appeals by the leaders of the IDP camp he belongs” a Rohingya from Thakkay Pyin IDP camp.

“People, here, are facing acute humanitarian crises. On top of that, Myanmar Police Force and Security Force frequently torture and loot us. It has become unbearable” he added.
