Case #1: Rohingya Sentenced to Seven-Year for Using Mobile Provided by GE Force

Aman Ullah (son of) Salimullah hails from Quarter 1 of Taung Pyo Let Wei Sub-Township under Maungdaw Township is working for Myanmar GE Force. He has achieved a legal tender from the GE Force to work with them in putting up fence along the border. Therefore, the Head of the GE Force, Sayagyi U Myo Thein, has provided him a mobile phone using Bangladeshi Sim Card so as to make communication easier.

On 22nd May 2014 afternoon, while he was going to Kyein Chaung (Bawli Bazaar) village, he was stopped by the Border Security Police at Kyein Chaung bridge-check-post. They arrested him accusing him of illegal possession of Bangladeshi phone. Then, they sent him to Maungdaw Police Station. On 23rd May 2014, Maungdaw Court sentenced him to 7-year imprisonment under the said charge. He’s still in Maungdaw Police Custody. He has not been transferred to Buthidaung Prison yet.

On 24th May 2914, the head of the GE Force, Sayagyi Myo Thein, said to U Aman Ullah’s family that he would appeal to the court for his (Aman Ullah’s) release and work on the case until he is released.

Case #2: Security Force Extort Money from Rohingyas for No Reason

Around 10PM on 23rd May 2014, Abdu Shukkor (son of) Iluu (of Age 25) and Noor Kabir (son of) Abdul Amin (of Age 20), two locals of the village of the Ye-Bun-Pyin (Boddil) of Paddin village tract, were taking rest outside their homes as it was hot in their (respective) homes. Meanwhile, they encountered with patrolling Border Security Police (Hlun Htein) belong to unit based at Primary School Premise in the village. They arrested them accusing that they were outside in the curfew time. When the Rohinya boys said the curfew period was from 11PM to 4AM, they (the security force) by force said that the period was from 10PM to 4AM to extort money from them. Having extorted Kyat 100,000, they released the boys afterwards.

Case #3: Security Force Arbitrarily Arrest and Detain a Rohingya

Faidullah (son of) Azizur Rahman (of Age 28) is a local of the village of U Kyi Kya (Boora Shidda Fara), northern Maungdaw. He is a father of two and labour that struggles for daily income for his family. Around 10AM on 20th May 2014, he was arrested by the Border Security Police (Hlun Htein) of Region (Nay Myay) 5, northern Maungdaw, for no reason. He’s still detained in their custody.

He was the sole income source of his family. In his absence, his family is facing severe financial hardship.

Case #4: Rakhine Administrator Extort Money from a Rohingya

U Ismail @HaanFoorGya is a local Rohingya of the village of Zay Kun Tan of Alay Than Kyaw village tract, southern Maungdaw. On 21st May, 2014, U Ni Lin (a Rakhine) from Rakhine village in Alay Than Kyaw made an arbitrary report to the village administrator, Maung Tun Naing (a Rakhine), against U Ismail that he (U Ismail) attempted to murder him (U Ni Lin). The administrator summoned the Rohingya man and extorted Kyat 130,000.
