Following the spate of violence against the internally displaced Rohingyas in Sin-Htet-Maw (Sandama) camps, Pauktaw township, on 2nd November 2013 (Click HERE to read earlier report), INGOs such as MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières) and ICRC (International Committe of the Red Cross) got the injured Rohingyas admitted to Sittwe General Hospital for treatment. Some Rakhine extremists led by Rakhine National Development Party (RNDP), angered by INGOs’ aids to the displaced Rohingyas, attempted to attack the office of ICRC in Sittwe at around 5PM on 4th November 2013.

On the other hand, since 3rd November 2013, Rakhine extremists have been demonstrating in front of the hospital demanding NGOs and INGOs to stop providing aids to the internally displaced Rohingyas in Arakan. They allege INGOs of providing assistance only to Rohingyas, not to Rakhines. A blantant lie that all know! At the same time, some Rakhine terrorists threaten that any Rohingya patient admitted to the hospital will be attacked and killed.

The Rakhine state government on 5th November 2013 said “we (Rakhine State Government) can’t take responsibility of the security of the Muslim patients any longer. Hence, they have to move out of the hospital.” Subsequently, the Muslim Rohingya patients getting medical treatments under the care of INGOs were ousted from the hospital at 6PM on 5th November 2013. Shame on this government that can’t protect lives and the government should resign!!

Many of the patients are still seriously in need of medical treatments. Upon asking, one of the female patients said “we were in the hospital for 8 days since ICRC and MSF had transferred us there for treatment. We had starved for four days prior to our admission to the hospital. And they proided us some food and water.”

There were total 20 Rohingyas (including 10 patients and other 10 are their caretakers) ousted and sent to the Aung Mingalar quarter and then Man Si camps in Bawdupa, Sittwe township. The list is as mentioned below.

18) Begum (Daugher of) Sayed Alam (age 25) (Caretaker)

They are from Min-Byaa Township.

19) Mohammed Junaid (Son of) Omar Meah (Age 3 months old) (Patient)

20) Noor Begum (Daugher of) Adur Rahman (Age 30) (Caretaker)

They are from U-Nyan-Tha village, Sittwe.

First their homes were burnt down, their properties were looted, their lands were confiscated and they were massacred. Then, they are forced to live in concentration camps. Their woman and girls are raped. They are tortured. They are being killed. They are driven out of their homeland. No opporutnity for their education! Now, they are deprived of access to medical treatments critically required for their surivival. What atrocity else? After all, why?

Please help them, for the sake of humanity, to have the kinds of lives that other human beings have. Or do not blame them when they take the matter into their own hands.

Shown below are some pictures of the ousted patients.
