A Police patrol team arbitrarily arrested 7 innocent Rohingya youths in Maungdaw Township on Monday night, whom were harassed and released only after extortion of humongous amount of money, the reports say.
The police team was led by Lieutenant Htoo Htoo of Regional Security Team, who is notorious for the atrocities against the Rohingya people. (The report was touched in this report: HERE and the detailed report is mentioned below.)
“A group of 7 youths were chatting sitting on the chairs outside the residence of the one of them at ‘Ali’ village of Myoma Taung Quarter (Quarter 2) around 8:30 PM on Monday. A patrolling Regional Security Team (Ne Htin Aphphwe) led by Lieutenant Htoo Htoo raided the place and arrested all of them for no reason.
[row][double_paragraph] Subsequently, the police beat up all of them. Two of the youths got severe injuries. The youths were also beaten while they were being taken to the police station.
So, the quarter administrator, U Yusuf, went to the police station and requested the police for their release. Nevertheless, the police released the youths only after having extorted Kyat 1 Million.[/double_paragraph][double_paragraph][blockquote style=”1″]“Perhaps, it was an attempt by the police to frighten the local Rohingya people so that they don’t come out in the late evening or at night. And the absence of Rohingya people outside will give freehand to the police and Rakhine extremists to plot against Rohingya people like they did in Buthidaung recently.”[/blockquote][/double_paragraph] [/row]
The victims are:
- Futiyaa @ Azizul Hoque (son of) Ali , Age 24
- Haabiz (son of) Fidaa @ Abu Jamil, Age 18
- Jamal Hassan (son of) Nazir Ahmed, Age 34
- Ayub, 38
- Hamidu Rahman, Age 21 and other two people
There were military personnel from the battalion based in the High School (1) Maungdaw, together with the police team” said an eyewitness declining to be named.
The curfew period imposed only for Rohingyas is also from 11:00PM to 5:00AM. But the police arbitrarily arrested them at 8:30PM. The people were said to have not done anything wrong or illegal either.
He continued saying “perhaps, it was an attempt by the police to frighten the local Rohingya people so that they don’t come out in the late evening or at night. And the absence of Rohingya people outside will give freehand to the police and Rakhine extremists to plot against Rohingya people like they did in Buthidaung recently.”

Similarly, the Border Guard Police (BGP) based at the check-post of Nuruallah village (of Baggona village tract) arbitrarily extorted Kyat 100,000 from a Rohingya religious scholar on the same day (i.e. November 3).
“The Border Guard Police stopped Mv Shah Alam while he was riding past their check-post with his motorcycle. The young teenager on his back-seat ran away in fear. So, the police seized his motorbike just for that. The police returned his bike only after extorting Kyat 100,000 from him. Mv Shah Alam hails from Foiraa hamlet of Baggona village tract.
Hence, we request to the higher authority of Myanmar to take actions against the police, the border police (BGP), military and other departments on the ground, that terrorizing the innocent people” said a local Rohingya.
