Floods Devastate Rakhine: Displaced Rohingya prohibited, Myanmar Must be Subject to International Sanctions

JAKARTA – Disaster floods that hit large parts of Myanmar , including the State of Arakan (Rakhine) , the last few days has raised new story of suffering Rohingya in Myanmar. Rain menguyur weeks Arfakan (Rakhine) state have damaged buildings and hundreds of hectares of agricultural land. No exception, the flooding affected the state of Arakan (Rakhine) Rohingya Refugees in Arakan’s capital, Akyab (Sittwe) City.

Based on the news reported by BBC Indonesia, 140,000 Rohingyas who become victims of floods reportedly denied refuge in public places, including the monasteries by security forces. Rohingyas are also forbidden evacuated to schools -school and village halls. This further confirms the discriminatory treatment suffered so Rohingya in his native land.

Heri Aryanto, Coordinator of Advocacy Refugees from SNH Advocacy Center said, the people of Myanmar should be aware and self reformation that the flood disaster that hit Myanmar could be a form of retaliation from the work of the hands of those who have persecuted, massacred, and treat the Rohingya are cruel and inhuman. Advice, encouragement, urging, petitions , and even the UN Resolution that had been presented did not seem enough to make the government and people of Myanmar awakened.

What is the current Rohingya experienced serious human rights violations. To cope with this incident, UNHCR as the UN body that houses refugees should take immediate action to help the Rohingya are denied refuge in public places. International sanctions should also be given to the countries of the world proven Myanmar today continues to perpetuate inhumane action against the Rohingya.

“Embargo and the severance of diplomatic relations may seem effective sanctions for Myanmar”, he concluded.
