LHOKSEUMAWE – University Malikussaleh (UNIMAL) Aceh in cooperation with agencies International Organization for Migration (IOM) gives English lessons to dozens of persecuted Rohingya from Myanmar who are now accommodated in the village of Blang Adoe, Kuta Makmur subdistrict, North Aceh.

Previously, UNIMAL and IOM has trained 40 immigrant Bangladeshi teenagers who were accommodated in the former Immigration Office Lhokseumawe.

Rector UNIMAL Apridar, Wednesday (05/08/2015) mentions, English language proficiency training was focused on the Rohingya shelter residents. “The main targets are teenagers and children. From talks with the IOM, this English language skills training will be followed by about 60 people, “said Apridar.

Apridar mentioned, today has been prepared six English teachers from Language Center UNIMAL. The training will be conducted over two days in a week.

He said, English proficiency is required by the citizens of the Rohingya from Myanmar. Thus, if there is a third state which gives them the right to settle, the language skills could be used to facilitate communication and to get a job.

“In addition, we hope that with this English language proficiency Rohingya teenager could live better in the future,” said Apridar.

Today, no fewer than 556 residents from Myanmar Rohingya stranded since two months ago in the waters Seunuddon, North Aceh. The Indonesian government policies allow them to settle for a year before getting a third country that is willing to accommodate.

Meanwhile, the citizens of Bangladesh origin will be deported to his country. So far the process has dilalukan gradually deportation by the Immigration Lhokseumawe.
