Burmese Authorities Deceived & Forced NVC over Resuming Rohingya’s Fishing

By Rohingya Vision TV Correspondents | 30th December 2017

Akyab: Burmese brutal Authorities ceased Rohingya’s fishing and deceived Rohingyas by extorting a huge sum of money promising to end the cease in an area of Akyab (Sitwe) township, complains a suffering local.

Since 18th October, 2017 authorities in area of Bogar Deail ceased all 120 Rohingya’s fishing boat from fishing in the sea. Following the tragic situation Rohingyas were extremely terrified for the mounting starvation of their families, as it was their only act of earning daily livelihood.

Rohingyas fear and starvation became an opportunity for the brutal Burmese Authorities again and took advantage of it. They deceived all the fishermen by extorting 650, 0000 kyats over allowing the fishing boats for fishing.

After extorting this huge sum of money they just allowed the Rohingya to fish for just 3 days until 21st October 2017. Since then authorities once again ceased their fishing up till today and demanded to accept illegal National verification Card (NVC) over resuming the fishing.

“We have been deceived and now they are forcing us to take NVC illegally. Even we die we won’t fall on the tricks of Burmese government to make us foreigners in our own land” explains a fisherman asked not to be named.

Moreover due to the cease of fishing for more than 3 months Rohingya are starving heavily and is need of emergency relief. “Our people are hunting frogs and selling as we do not have any other means to earn money” explains an elderly from the area crying over the situation.

National Verification Card (NVC) is issued to a foreigner for verification while he/she is applying for citizenship in Burma (Myanmar). And forcing these to the native Rohingyas will make them officially stateless in their own ancestral land.
