Advent of New BGP Chief Makes Rakhines, Hindu Militias More Active in Violence

Northern Maungdaw: The advent of new Border Guard Police chief has made Rakhine and Hindu militias more active in their anti-Rohingya violent activities such as torching villages and homes, physical attacks of Rohingyas, sexual abuses of Rohingya women, robbery of their cattle, looting homes, etc., according to local Arakanese Rohingyas.

Today (October 8, 2017) at around 8 am, those Rakhine and Hindu extremists have the remaining homes in Kyun Pauk Pyu Su village tract including Furan Fara, Boittela Fara, Deil Fara and Harizzura hamlets.

“Young Rakhines and Hindus with knives and machetes entered the village in the early morning bu motor cycles and torched the remaining homes after taking the valuables out, which are later carried away by them to their villages.” says a local on condition of anonymity.

“Cows in droves and buffaloes in herds are driven away by the Rakhines and moved into their hamlets before our very eyes, but none of us dares hinder them” he added.

In Zee Bin Chaung, even no toilet nor bathroom is left safe.

An elderly man asserts that these non-Rohingya militias become more active after the government has reshuffled the Border Guard Police head, and nowadays they are so active that they are no longer accompanied by armed authorities in committing any crimes against Rohingyas. He said, “The situation looks that they have open permission for anti-Rohingya violence.”

Former chief of Mandalay Region No. 3 Security Police Command Police Brig-Gen Myint Toe has replaced Police Brig-Gen Thura San Lwin as the chief of Maungdaw Border Guard Police Force.
