Woodside Petroleum discovers natural gas off Myanmar coast
Woodside Petroleum Ltd. has discovered natural gas off the coast of Myanmar, Bloomberg reported on 4 January.
Woodside, Australia’s second-largest oil producer, will carry out more analysis of the discovery at the Shwe Yee Htun-1 exploration well in the Arakan (Rakhine) Basin off Myanmar’s west coast. The well encountered about 15 meters (49 feet) of so-called net gas pay.
Woodside has a 40 percent stake in the venture, while Total holds 40 percent and Myanmar-based MPRL E&P Pte Ltd., the only independent E&P company led by Myanmar nationals operating both onshore and offshore around Myanmar, owns 20 percent.
