Sittwe (Akyab), (Rohingya Vision) — The Word Food Program (WFP) is to cut back ration supplies to the internally displaced people (IDP) in Arakan State by certain percentages, according to an official announcement by Mrauk-U District Management Committee.
“The sudden decision to reduce aids to will further worsen the situation because more than 95% IDP are Rohingya people” said a Rohingya IDP in Sittwe.
The announcement made on June 25 by the Mrauk-U District (Administrative and) Management Committee quoting the resolution from the meeting of the Rakhine State Government on June 22 mentioned that the WFP has been facing shortage of funds and hence, approached the state government regarding the reducing food aids to IDP in the respective townships.
The WFP used to 52 Tins (i.e. 10.5Kg) of Rice, 8 Tins of Beans and a litre of edible oil to a displaced person per month. However, as per decision made by the state government to cut back the food ration supplies from July 2015 onward, the WFP will reduce the ration supplies as mentioned below.
- Rice by 10%
- Edible Oil by 20%
- Beans by 20%
Since most of the Rohingya people — especially Rohingya IDP in Sittwe, Pauktaw, Myebon, Kyauktaw etc — are forced to live in the concentration camps and rendered without means to livelihood and due to the heavy monsoon, they will likely suffer the most from the ration cut back.

Note: The WFP is allowed only to supply rations to the registered Rohingya IDP. The unregistered ones have been facing dire crises for years.
