“Junaid (of age 30) is a Rohingya fisherman hails from Quarter 2, Taung Pyo Letwei sub-township, northern Maungdaw. He has gone missing since he set off for fishing in a nearby river on June 29.

On July 4, some other fishermen fishing in the same river got some bad smells from bushes by the river. When they approached the bushes to find out what smelled so bad, they spotted the dead body of Junaid rapped in a blanket and hanged on a tree. His body was full bruises and injuries of knife-stabbing.

The fishermen informed Junaid’s family about his death. Although his family arrived and tried to take his corpse away for burial, the authority prevented his family from doing so. The corpse is still there” said a local of Taung Pyo to Rohingya Vision TV.

“We are not sure who has killed him. But we suspect that Rakhine militants operating in the forests have killed him” he continued.
