Unidentified Body of Rohingya Teenager Found Floating in River
By Rohingya Mirror
Maungdaw, Arakan State (Rohingya Vision) — An unidentified body of a Rohingya teenager was found floating in a river in Maungdaw Township last Saturday, the locals report.
The local fishermen on Decembwr 19 found the dead body wrapped in plastic sheets floating in the river between ‘Kuna’ hamlet of ‘Myo Oo (Italia)’ village tract and ‘Haabi’ hamlet of ‘Thiho Kyun’ village tract in Maungdaw. Eyewitnesses said that the body is of a Rohingya teenager but it has not been identified yet as to who he was and where he was from.
“The body has not been identified. It is still floating in the river. No body dares to take it on the land to identify it.
The fishermen neither informed the authorities nor did they try to inform anyone. They fear the authorities will target them for spotting the corpse instead of conducting investigation about the dead body.
Here, earlier there have been incidences that authorities have punished the people that found corpses lik these instead of carrying out a proper investigation,” said a local on the condition of anonymity.
The locals are of the view that the teenager has been killed either by Rakhine (Magh) extremists/militants called Arakan Army (AA) conducting activities in the jungle or by Rakhine extremist memers in Burmese Border Guard Police (BGP). However, nothing has identified yet.
