Maungdaw, Arakan State– Security Force (Hlun Htein) at Hinthara Check-post, southern Maungdaw, have started to confiscate Temporary Identity Cards issued to Rohingyas if ‘Muslim’ is written as racial classification. Besides, they torture Rohingya passers-by and loot their livestock and edible goods as they cross the check-post.
“There is a Hlun Htein (Security Force) Check-post by the Hinthara (Hossara) bridge between the village of Zawmadat (Laambaguna) and Thandar (Sainda) in southern Maungdaw. Hlun Htein (security force) at the check-post has started to confiscate Temporary Identity Cards issued to Rohingyas if ‘Muslim’ is written as racial classification. Besides, they loot goods, livestock, fishes, vegetables and others from Rohingyas as they (Rohingyas) pass through the check-post.
There are 10 members of Security Force and Immigration combined and one deputy chief over them. Rohingyas need to cross this check-post by motor vehicles and bicycles as they do trading of stuffs such as Chicken, Vegetables and other edible goods within township. As the Security Force has started looting them, they are facing losses in their businesses. Many of these local Rohingya traders are poor people and had to cease their trade as they were unable tortures by the Security Force” said a Rohingya that has been once looted by the security force.
“Security Force at the Checkpost started torturing Rohingya people especially after the end of the Population Census in the township. Rohingyas in the township tried to self-identify their ethnicity according to the census law. However, authority refused to collect their data as they claimed ‘Rohingya’ as their ethnicity” he added.
