Maungdaw, Arakan- At the village of Thawan Chaung in southern Maungdaw, Security Forces are forcing Rohingyas to work for them without any wages. Besides, they torture the (Rohingya) people under different accusations.
“There is a HlunHtein (Security Force) sub-camp at the village of Thawan Chaung in the southern-most territory of Maungdaw township. It is a sub-camp of the HlunHtein camp number 8 based at the village of Inn-Dinn (Aan Daang), southern Maungdaw. And it is under the management of HlunHtein Region 8 at the village of Myint Hlut (Mer Ullah), southern Maungdaw.
The sub-camp has six security force members and all of them are Maghs (Rakhines). They subject a Rohingya from the village (Thawan Chaung) to work as forced labour from 6AM to 6:30PM everyday. They make him cook their meals, clean the camp’s premise and massage their bodies.
It was Kasim Ali (son of) Naaru Meah, a 14-year-old Rohingya boy, that was subjected to forced labour on 8th April 2014. Having accused him of being late, the Hlun Hteins beat him to pulp and threw him out of their camp. Seeing him helplessly lying on the road and unable to move, the villagers informed his father. The father took him back home. He is still unable to eat and walk properly as the consequences of the severe injuries” said a villager.
“On top of subjecting us to forced labor, these HlunHteins are committing ruthless brutalities” he added.
