Rohingya Refugee Beaten by a Local in Bangladesh

By Shafi

Teknaf, Bangladesh (Rohingya Vision) — A Rohingya refugee was severely beaten by a local man in Bangladeshi for asking him to settle the debts, a refugee said.

The incident happened in ‘Ledaa’ Refugee camps in Teknaf area, Cox’s Bazaar district last Thursday. Besides beating him, the local Bangladeshi looted his (the victim’s) small shop which is the only income source for his family of seven members.

The victim is identified to be Noor Mohammed Nurul Hakim, 39, and the local oppressor is Abdu Salam Adbu Rahman.

“He was beaten severely. His shop was also looted. But the refugees can complain nowhere to seek for justice,” said Mr. Alam, an elderly refugee.

Moreover, the refugees in the camps are reported to have been facing many severe crises such as attacks by the local robbers, spreadable diseases like pneumonia, diarrhoea, malaria etc among children and leakage of rains into their shelters in monsoon.

Earlier, an NGO named Muslim Aid used to provide them the required assistances. However, the Bangladesh government has ousted the NGO. Since then, the woes of the refugees have turned into worse.
