(PressTV)- The head of the Arakan Rohingya National Organization (ARNO) has criticized the international community for its inaction with regard to the dire situation of Muslims in Myanmar, saying the minority group is facing total annihilation.
Nurul Islam told press TV on Thursday that Rohingya Muslims living in Myanmar are in danger of being wiped out.
The president of ARNO added that despite the UN-funded effort to get Myanmar to do a census of its population, including the Rohingyas, the government has rejected the international call.
He noted that Myanmar’s government is using intimidation to force Rohingyas to identify themselves as Bengalis and not native Rohingyas.
Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar have been persecuted and faced torture, neglect and repression since the country’s independence in 1948.
Over the past two years, hundreds of Rohingyas have been killed and hundreds of thousands forced to flee after being targeted by Buddhist mobs.
