Rohingya Labors Escape from Terror Attacks by Rakhine Extremists
Sittwe (Akyab) (Rohingya Vision) – A group of Rakhine extremists attempted to carry out a terror attack on a group of seven Rohingya labors in Sittwe (Akyab) Township last Wednesday.
Fortunately, all of the seven Rohingya men managed to escape alive from the attack. The victims are internally displaced people (IDP) living in Thakkay Pyin (Sakki Fara) camps in Sittwe.
The terror incident happened as the group of the seven men went to the river nearby a Rakhine (Magh) village called ‘Maung Ni’ to bring firewood along the river.
“They are IDP doing labor jobs to earn their daily incomes. They went to bring firewood from the river nearby ‘Maung Ni’ Rakhine village on September 23. Meanwhile, a group of Magh extremists appeared from the village holding swords, knives and sticks in their hands.
They chased the Rohingya men working in the river and attempted to attack them. Therefore, the Rohingya labors ran away from the place for their lives,” said an internally displaced Rohingya in Thakkay Pyin Camp.
“Luckily, every one of them managed to escape the attack. But it was a close shave,” he added.
As the Myanmar’s election looming around the corner, the Rakhine extremists are trying out different means to create yet one more round of violence against Rohingyas for some vested political interests.
