Buthidaung, Arakan State (Rohingya Vision) – The Burmese authorities extorted money from a Rohingya man in Buthidaung Township as his 7-year-old Rohingya Child drowned and died on Monday this week.
The man of the double victimization is identified to be Mr. Khala Meah, 35, a general worker, hails from ‘Pharung Chaung- Praing Taung’ hamlet of ‘Pharung Chaung’ village tract in Buthidaung Township.
The village administration, Maung Than Htay who is Rakhine extremist notorious for oppressing the innocent Rohingyas, summoned him and extorted Kyat 200,000 for the death of his child. After that, the administrator reported to the Border Guard Police (BGP) in ‘Nyaung Chaung’ village of the death of the child.
Worse for him, the BGP is also demanding for Kyat 200,000 for the death. He is now on the run and in hide-outs to escape from the arrest of the BGP as he’s unable to fulfill their demands.
“U Khala Meah is a very poor man. He gave Kyat 200,000 to the village administrator, Maung Than Htay, by borrowing them from others. Now, BGP are too demanding the same amount from him. He’s unable to pay. The BGP are trying to arrest him.
So, he is now hiding from them,” said a local man asking to withhold his identity.
