Report 2: Rohingya in Southern Maungdaw Subjected to Forced Labour

Maungdaw, Arakan– The Security Force subjects Rohingyas in southern Maungdaw as forced labour everyday. Besides, they torture Rohingya people during the hours of forced labouring.
“Thinbaw Kway and Kyauk Pandu are two Rohingya villages in southern Maungdaw. There are HlunHtein (Security Force) Camps in both villages. The Security Force camps are under the administration of HlunHtein (formerly NaSaKa) Region 8 based in the village of MyintHlut (Mer Ullah village).
Everyday, 15 people from each village are forced to work without any wages in the premises of the camps from 8AM to 5PM. They have to do any kind of job that the security force order to. They are not given time for rest and time to have meals.
They get beaten and tortured even if they slightly hesitate to do things even after continously working for eight hours. The Security Force started subjecting Rohingyas as forced labours on 8th April 2014 and it has been going on until today” said a Rohingya from a nearby village.
