Police Arrest a Rohingya Allegedly for Police’s Money Extortion Reports

Buthidaung, Arakan state– Captain Mya Htwe of Buthidaung Police station arrested a Rohingya on 10th April 2014 allegedly for reporting the cases of money extortion by the police to internet news media.

“Around 2AM on 10th April 2014, Captain Mya Htwe and other 12 police officers from Buthidaung Police station raied the home of U Shura Ali in the village of Kachcha-Pak-Kan-Pyin in the (Buthidaung) township. Then, they arrested his four sons. They are: 1) Ariff Ahmed, 2) Yaser Arafat, 3) Ali Arafat and 4) Mohammed Jahanghir. The latter three, after being tortured, were released around 6PM on the same day. However, they have still detained Mv Ariff Ahmed under the accusation of sending reports to internet news media of the Police’s Money extortion from Rohingyas” said a Rohingya in the township.
