Myanmar’s military and Border Guard Police (BGP) tortured a number of innocent Rohingyas in northern Maungdaw and ransack their properties last Friday, according to the reliable sources.

The military and the police committed the tortures during an arbitrary raid they carried out in Pwin Phyu Chaung village on October 24. The BGP belonged to the BGP Camp in Ywet Nyo Taung village and the military is a patrol currently encamped at the same station.

A joint team of the Border Guard Police (BGP) and the military belong to the BGP camp in Ywet Nyo Taung (Zam Moinna) village raided Pwin Phyu Chaung village around 2:00PM on October 24.

As they arrived in the village, they stopped three innocent Rohingyas: Farid Khan (son of) Zafar Ahmed (of age 16), Mv Abdur Rahman (son of) Fazal Karim (of age 33) and Azizul Hoque (son of) Ashroff Zuma (of age 31) and started beating them up in gang for no reason at all.

Similarly, they tortured two more innocent teenagers named Imran (son of) Rashid Ahmed (age 16) and Ikram (son of) Rabiullah (of age 14) respectively. Consequently, these two victims got severe injuries in their abdomen and are now suffering extreme pain. The military slapped the village administrator, U Noor Hashim, because he questioned the military why they were torturing the innocent people. So, he is suffering from swollen face.

“These barbaric actions such as tortures, loots and terrorizing people by the military based in Ywet Nyo Taung village are totally against the law. It is very unfortunate to see that those who have to protect the law are openly violating the law themselves. People are worried as the military are having like terrorists” he exclaimed.
 Moreover, the military:

  • Seized a goat worth Kyat 45,000 belonged to Hafiz Yunose (son of) Anu Meah (of age 35)
  • Raided the home of Nurul Amin (son of) Basa Meah (of age 43) and seized 19 Chicken Eggs
  • Robbed goods worth Kyat 10,000 from the shop of Hafiz Abdur Rahman (so of) Hussein (of age 43)
  • Seized chickens belonged to Nurul Islam (son of) Habizur Rahman (of age 34)
  • And Shomshu (son of) Hafiz Ahmed (of age 35) respectively.

Seeing the robberies by the military, the village administrator, U Noor Hashim, asked the military to stop them as they are illegal and not according to the law. The in-charge of the military became aggressive and responded “what is that to you? We will do as we want. We behave rude because we can and have power. Who the f**k are you?”

And again afterwards, the military broke into the house of Khalu (son of) Basa Meah (of age 48) and broke down the locker and robbed Kyat 30,000” said an elderly Rohingya in the region.

“These barbaric actions such as tortures, loots and terrorizing people by the military based in Ywet Nyo Taung village are totally against the law. It is very unfortunately to see that those who have to protect the law are openly violating the law themselves. People are worried as the military are having like terrorists” he exclaimed.
