Sittwe (Akyab), Arakan State (Rohingya Vision) – Myanmar’s military arrested and inhumanely tortured a Rohingya trishaw-puller in Sittwe Township yesterday the eyewitnesses say.
The officer that tortured the rickshaw-puller is a ‘Major’ recently appointed as the commander of the Battalion 376 located between ‘Thae Chaung’ (Rakhine) and Mramma Gyi villages.
“Around 8:30AM yesterday, a rickshaw-puller carrying passengers was stopped while passing through the check-post of the army battalion 376. Then, the commander of the battalion took him off the rickshaw and started brutally beating him for no reason. The military threatened the onlookers to chase them away.
Then, he was taken into the military and continuously tortured. He might have seriously injured because of the tortures. We don’t who he is or his name is” said another rickshaw-puller, one of many eyewitnesses of the incident.
When the two local Rohingyas inquired about him to the commander around 10:40PM tonight, they were informed that the arrestee passed away.
Soon, three police cars arrived at the place where the crime took place. And they shouted at the on-looking people and chased them saying that nothing had happened, it has been learnt.
However, later, the victim was released alive with severe injuries and bruises all over his body resulted from the extreme tortures.
The commander was posted in the battalion last month. Since then, he started harassing and torturing the Rohingya-passers, rickshaw-pullers and others and confiscate their money, mobile phones and other belongings.
