“The authority arrested them by deception. On 17th June 2012, Maung Daw administration called on the villagers of Bagguna for a meeting saying that they needed to discuss with the villagers to find out solutions to the problems.

The innocent villagers, believing in what the authority had said, gathered for the said meeting. As soon as they gathered, they were surrounded and Police and Hlun Htein (Security Force) and 17 of them got arrested. And again on 4th July 2012, during a raid, 19 more Rohingya villagers were arrested. They were sent to the Maung Daw Police cell and then, transferred to the Buthidaung jail.

All the people arrested are 100% innocent. They had nothing to do with any violence nor did they kill anyone. All the cases against them are fraudulent. It is a way practiced by the authority to reduce Rohingya population in order to get rid of Rohingya community. Now, they were handed long-term jail. We don’t think they can even return home alive” said a villager.
