Massive Fire Destroys Market in Northern Maungdaw

Maungdaw — A massive fire destroyed the market at the village of ‘Zin Paing Nya’ in northern Maungdaw yesterday (on Apr 16) afternoon.
The fire at the village’s market began at around 2:00 PM, which destroyed as many as 13 shops including food stores, mechanical workshops and fuel pumps.
Some military personnel arrived soon after the fire broke out and prevented the villagers from extinguishing the fire. The fire brigade didn’t arrive either and after two hours, the fire died off after turning the market into ashes, an eyewitness said.
The exact cause of the fire is unknown yet. It is highly likely an accidental fire but some locals suspect the Myanmar military torched market in order to destabilize the region once again.
The ‘Zin Paing Nya’ village locally known as ‘Zammoinna’ is a Rohingya village under the Region 6 in northern Maungdaw.
