No Improvement in Situation of Displaced People in Rakhine, Says French Ambassador

(RFA Burmese)- Although it has been more than two years since the violence in Rakhine State began, there are no improvements seen in the situation of displaced people [both Muslim (Rohingya) and Rakhine), said French Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Theirry Mathou to reporters on June 20, 2014.

Mr. Thierry Mathou met eporters and journalists at Shwe Thazin Hotel in Sittwe (Akyab), Rakhine (Arakan) state and shared the experiences during his trip in the state.

“I have visited camps of Displaced Muslims (Rohingya) and Rakhines. I have seen untold sufferings of the people and they are living in immense fear. Their situation has not improved in any way since the violence began” the ambassador said.

French Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr. Theirry Mathou, arrived in Sittwe (Akyab), Rakhine State (Arakan State) on June 18, 2014. During his trip, he visited Rakhine villages, Muslim (Rohingya) villages and their camps. He is said to have held separate meetings with leaders from Rakhine Community and Rohingya Community.
