Illegal Extortion of Money from Rohingyas by Forestry Department in Maungdaw
IN SOUTHERN MAUNGDAW AUTHORITIES FROM FORESTRY DEPARTMENT STARTED EXTORTED MONEY FROM ROHINGYA FIREWOOD COLLECTORS AND CUTTERS, COMPLAINS A LOCAL.

Maungdaw – Forestry department’s Authorities started extorting money in Saida fara village of southern Maungdaw, according to reliable sources.
Forestry Department’s officer named to be U Than Naing, who is in the charge of the of the village’s forest now started to extract 250 kyat per bundle of firewood from Rohingyas woodcutters, who strive for daily livelihoods.
Even earlier Rohingyas had to pay 1000 kyat per person for going to the hilly areas for collecting and cutting firewood. But now the situation has further worsened due to the new officer U Than Naing.
Following that on 5th June 2016 at 2:00 pm notorious officer accused of cutting firewood without permission and extorted 1 lakh from Siddik, S/O Hamid Hussain, 25 who were returning to village with his 40 bundles of firewood.
On the same day many Rohingyas have been targeted by U Than Naing, where he extorted money from the Rohingyas who could pay. Others firewood were snatched by the officer.
Due to the extortion Rohingyas are in fear and troubled situation who strive for daily livelihood, says a local on the condition of anonymity.
