Does Myanmar dare attend PPT despite its refusal of abuses?

While Myanmar government is rejecting constantly allegations of crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing against Rohingya Muslims, accusing the United Nations of making exaggerated claims on the issue, Permanent People’s Tribunal has invited to and notified “for the Final Session on State Crimes Allegedly Committed in Myanmar against the Rohingyas, Kachins and Other Group.”

Following the opening Session on  State Crimes Allegedly committed against the Rohingyas, Kachins and Other Groups in Myanmar which took placein London, on 6 and 7 March 2017, the Permanent Peoples Tribunal (PPT) has notified in due time the convocation of the public hearings scheduled for 18-22 September in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the results of the investigation on the topics included in the Indictment will be presented together with the witnesses of individual testimonies and of expert reports.

The PPT has confirmed also the invitation to be present, with the right to a formal defense according to the criteria and time which they will indicate.

Despite the Myanmar government has planned to delegate a special envoy to be stationed in New York where the UN is headquartered to explain the Rakhine issue to the international community, does Myanmar dare send its representation to PPT on the issue?

Recently Maungdaw Investigation Commission led by VP Myint Swe rejected all the allegation of human rights violations against Rohingya in Arakan State, amid rejection of its report by Rohingyas and International right groups.
