Pauktaw, Arakan– The internally displaced Rohingyas in Pauktaw Township are facing severe and disastrous food crisis nowadays. Ahead of the Mahasen Cyclone in May, the displaced Rohingyas from the camp of Nget Chaung had been moved to that of Sin Htet Maw (Sandama) in Pauktaw Township.

“Since we moved here, no sufficient food rations have been being provided to us by any concerned quarter. The number of internally displaced Rohingyas has also increased as we moved in. As a result, we are facing severe food crisis and people are dying of starvation. In last three days, two people died: one child and one adult. They are:

1)      Abdul Hakim S/o Ula Meah         Age 5

2)      Abdul Kader S/o Abdul Aziz       Age 48” said a displaced Rohingya in Sin Htet Maw Camp.

“We don’t have food to eat here. Our access to work or livelihood is blocked. Fasting season, Ramadan, is also around the corner. People are extremely worried.

Diseases such as Hepatitis C, Jaundice, Diarrhea and Pneumonia etc are also rampant. No enough shelter for the monsoon season!  If the present situation continues for a few more months, many people may die. We, on the ground of humanity, wish to seek help from everyone to stop the ongoing apartheid situation” exclaimed another displaced Rohingya.
