1- Buthidaung: Military Beat Up Rohingya Boy and Seize his Motorbike

Mohammed Reyas (son of) Mohammed Foyas (Age 20) is a Rohingya religious student and local of the village of Khwe Mura Fara of Mee Gyaung village tract, Buthidaung twonship. Around 10AM on 14th April 2014, Captain Tun Naing of Military Battalion 552 (located nearby Thin Ga Net village) and two of his subordiates beat him up severely for no reason. Then, they seized his motorbike. And there is no one to take action against the military. These kinds of abuses are quite common these days. (Report by Hakim)

2- Buthidaung: Rakhine Extremists Torch a Religious School

Around 3AM on 12th April 2014, a group of Rakhine extremists torched a Hafiz School (School for learning Quran by heart) in the village of Kyun Pauk of Buthidaung township. Fortunately, only one fourth of the school got burnt as the students at the school woke up in time to extinguish fire. We wonder how they were able to torch the school despite the presence of Security Force around its area. (Report by Noor)

3- Maungdaw: Military Threaten to Destroy Rohingya Community

At 2PM on 13th April 2014, the commander of the battalion 535 major Zaw Hlatt Oo summoned the administrators of the villages in the region of northern Maungdaw to his camp. He asked the administrators why the people in the region claimed to be Rohingya. He further said “what’s Rohingya? Where is Rohingya? There’s no Rohingya in Myanmar.”

He also threatened “you will come to know where the people that claim Rohingya will be and what their situation will be after 17th April 2014. We have authority to “shoot Rohingya at sight.” Hel also said “we know who pull your strings behind. It’s not Obama but U Thein Sein rule Myanmar. We are paid our salary by U Thein Sein, not Obama. Therefore, we will do anything for our nation.” (Report by CR MYARF)

4- Maungdaw: Armed Rakhine Extremists Attempt to Torch Rohingya Homes

At 12 O’ clock at night on 12th April 2014, a group of armed 30 Rakhine terrorists with bottles of petrol in their hands attempted to enter the village of Hten Binga of Kamouk Seik village tract under region 2, northern Maungdaw. They were unable to enter the village because of the Rohingya villagers on sentry duty. They attempted again at 1:30AM on 14th April 2014. The villagers were again able to deter them from entering the village. The villagers confirm that the terrorists are still in the forest to the east of the village of Hten Binga. The villagers fear that they might sneak into village sometime someday and torch their homes. (Report by CR MYARF)

5- Maungdaw: Police Extort Money from a Rohingya

Around 5:45 on 13th April 2014, U Aung Kyaw Kant, a corporal from Maungdaw police station, in collaboration with his puppet, U Chay Ku (son of) U Mohammed, extorted Kyat 20,000 from Mohammed Amin from the village of Myoma Kayintan (Shidda Fara) by means of threats to imprisonment. (Report by MH)

6- Maungdaw: Rohingyas Arrested in relation to Fire on MRCS Office Released

Around 1PM on 14th April 2014, former MRCS (Myanmar Red Cross Society) office (now used as residence of police officers) in Taung Pyo Lat Wai under Taung Pyo sub-township, northern Maungdaw, caught fire. According to reliable sources, the office was deliberately torched by some Rakhine (Magh) extremists to target Rohingyas. Therefore, around 4pm of the day, the police inspector and incharge of the police station, U Kyaw Zaw OO, arbitrarily arrested four Rohingyas in relation to the fire. They are U Noor Hussein (the administrator of Quarter 1 in the sub-township), U Abdullah (the administrator of Quarter 2), U Dil Daar (the administrator of Quarter 5) and Laalu @U Abdu Karim (a 10-house-hold-head from quarter 2). He inhumanely beat and tortured them.

U Abdu Karim was released on the same day. But the former three (administrators) were released only 16th April 2014. They were severely tortured all these days. (Report by CR MYARF)
