Buthidaung Police Raid and Arrest Rohingyas for Ransom

Buthidaung, Arakan State (Rohingya Vision) – The Myanmar Police arbitrarily arrested numbers of innocent Rohingyas in Buthidaung Township last Sunday night after carrying out raids in their homes, according to the local reports.

It happened in a Rohingya village called ‘La Wei Dek Pyin’ in the township around 12:30AM Monday morning. The raid was conducted by Sergeant Zaw Win and other five police personnel from Buthidaung Police station under the banner of ‘a Surprise Raid.’

After arresting them, they were taken to the office of the village administration where they were beaten and kept handcuffed until 4:00AM of the night.

The victims of the appalling acts by the police are:

  • Shakir Ahmed Mohammed Kassin
  • Fakhir Ahmed Basa Meah
  • Hamidullah Abu Toyub
  • Idiris Mohammed Sayed
  • Lukhman Hakim Mohammed Alam
  • Rahmat Ullah Abdul Malik
  • Son-in-law ofU Siraj

The police released them on Monday after extorting Kyat 1 Million from them altogether.

The police threatened “it is a crime for you having your sons working in foreign countries. So, we can sue you all with human trafficking cases. Or get yourselves released by paying us Kyat 1 Million.”
