“Around 3:00PM on June 2, *Regional Security Police from Buthidaung Police Station raided Alay Chaung village in Buthidaung Township. Then, they arrested two innocent Rohingyas under the false pretexts of (illegally) travelling to Bangladesh. They are:

1)     U Habi Ullah (son of) Abdu Zabbar and

2)     U Dil Mohammed (son of) Habibur Rahman

They were beaten in the police station. Around 5:30PM of the day, the Police released U Habi Ullah having extorted Kyat 50,000 from him. However, U Dil Mohammed who is carpenter by professional has not been released yet. He is said to have been being tortured because he is unable to pay the ransom money” said local Rohingya of the village on the condition of anonymity.

“However, this is not the first time they have done so. They frequently arrest our people and extort money from them on arbitrary accusations. It has become unbearable” he added.
