Robberies by Burmese Military in Broad Day Light

June 12, 2013 Maung Daw, Arakan: One high ranking Military Officer and two Police officers are carrying out robberies against Rohingya passers-by in Southern Maung Daw almost every day. A local Rohingya said “they are from the camp based at Kayemyaing, southern Maung Daws. They are:

1)      Captain Htaik Soe of Light Infantry Unit 352

2)      And a Police Comrade Aye Tun

3)      U Tin Than, head of Police Base at Kayemyaing

They beat and robbed three Rohingya passers-by around 10AM yesterday (i.e. on 11th June 2013). The names of the robbed Rohingyas are:

1)      Mohammed Rafique@ Lala S/o Dil Mohammed (23 years old) from the village of Nurullah, Baggona village tract

2)      Anwar S/o Nurul Islam (24 years old) from the same village

3)      Nurul Hoque S/o Nur Muhammed from the village of Kunkhara (Padin).

Rohingya mentioned in number one here was on his way back to his village with 10 Sacks of rice (each contained 50Kg) for his shop. He was beaten and the rice sacks were robbed. And from the person in number two, Military robbed Kyat 100,000 he had with him. They have beaten Rohingya in number three here and robbed Kyat 50,000 from him.”

“With each and every passing day, they are behaving more like goons and less like military. They are going rampant like goons and robbing Rohingyas like dacoits in broad day light. Their atrocities against Rohingyas have become unbearable and gone beyond the critical point” he exclaimed.
