Burmese Authorities Forces NVC on Rohingya at Gunpoint

Maungdaw: Border Guard Police (BGP) and Immigration department stationed in Alleyrewa, Shudafara (Sheweza) village of Maungdaw and forced 2 Rohingyas to take National Verification Card (NVC) at gunpoint on 16th October, 2017, reports a suffering local.

Border Guard Police (BGP) and Immigration department stationed from early morning in the Alleyrewa area of Shudfara (Sheweza) and forced the pedestrian Rohingyas to take by their forceful activities like abusing and threatening.

Following the incidence they arrived in the area of Doriyafara and forcefully entered the house of a Rohingya named to be Kurban Ali S/O Muhammed Hussain, (45) by breaking the doors. Due to fear of arbitrary arrest and torture, he ran off before the authorities arrived.

Later in the same area they forecefully entered to the houses of other 2 Rohingyas, where they forced both of the Rohingya to take National Verification Card (NVC). Then they took their pictures and signatures at gunpoint and registered them under National Verification Card (NVC) holders. The victims are identified to be:

  1. Asmot Ullah S/O Muhammed Hussain, 28
  2. Hafez Ahmed

National Verification Card (NVC) is issued to a foreigner for verification while he/she is applying for citizenship in Myanmar. And forcing these to the native Rohingyas will make them officially stateless in their own ancestral land.
