Burmese Authorities’ Arrest & Money Extortion Exhausts Remaining Rohingya

Buthidaung: Burmese police and Border Guard Police (BGP) Jointly arrests and extorts money from the remaining Rohingya on separate incidences in various village tracts of Buthidaung Township last week (12 Feb-16 Feb), reports a suffering Rohingya.

Initially at Mingisi (Mee Kyaung Zay) village tract MV. Iddris S/O Abdu Kadir was trapped with a fake case to extort 500, 000 Kyats by village Admin and BGP on 12th Feb 2019.

Just a day after the first incident, on 14th February, In Pu Kyaung Chaung village tract Muhammed Zakariya was released by the BGPs after extorting an amount of 850, 000 Kyats. Earlier on 14th January 2019, BGPs of Taung Bazaar accused him of being connected to ARSA and arrested him.

The victim said he was simply kept in custody for a month just to extort this huge sum of money from him.

Later on 16th February, Mohamed Shuaib was arrested and beaten inhumanely with a fabricated case by Burmese police in ward 2 of Buthidaung downtown.

Arbitrary arrest and money extortion have reached its peak on the remaining Rohingya in Buthidaung Township as a punishment of staying on their own ancestral land.
