Myanmar’s Border Guard Police destroyed a Muslim Mosque in Maungdaw Township, say the locals

Maungdaw – Myanmar’s Border Guard Police known as BGP destroyed a mosque located at ‘Kyauk Pandu village also known as Shitaaf’ in southern Maungdaw last Saturday.
Major Lin Lin Naing, the Commander of BGP in ‘Inn Din’ Camp, ordered the local Rohingya Muslims to destroy the mosque in December last year accusing the traditionally built mosque was illegally erected and was unregistered. Thus, the Commander and his file-troops themselves destroyed the mosque on February 13.
“The Mosque has been existence nearby the market of ‘Ywa Gyi Ywa’ hamlet of Kyauk Pandu village tract for many years since the time of Burmese (Myanmar) Military Junta. However, the destroying a Place of Worship at the time of the current democratic government indicates a clear of violations of a people’s Freedom to Worship.
Hence, they are violating Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” said an elderly local man on behalf of his fellow villagers.
