The Nasaka, the former Border Security Force notorious for untold crimes against Rohingyas was replaced by Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) last year. However, the BGP has been proving to be more brutal than Nasaka used to be.

Nowadays, BGP based at Kyein Chaung village also known as Bawli Bazaar in northern Maungdaw are said to have arresting and torturing Rohingyas in the region on rampant accusations in order to extort money from them.

“Mohammed Hussein (son of) Mohammed Alam is a local of northern hamlet of Bawli Bazaar village also known as Kyein Chaung. He carries passengers with his motor-taxi up and down from Kyein Chaung to Taung Pyo sub-township.

Around 5:30PM on July 25, two passengers came to Kyein Chaung Market with his taxi. They are Hf Rafi (son of) Musa Ahmed (of age 35) and Yunose (son of) Abu Alam hail from Quarter 4, Taung Pyo Laet Wei Sub-Township and Mya Zi hamlet of Londoong village tract, northern Maungdaw, respectively.

BGP led by Police Zaw Zaw Aung stopped the two Rohingya men and searched their bodies. Though nothing was found, they were locked up and inhumanely tortured all night. The next morning, a local Rohingya named Mubarak @Banduyaa (son of) Abdul Lati hail from middle hamlet of Kyeing Chaung got them released by paying Kyat 450,000 to the police.

On the same day, the said police Zaw Zaw Aung and Deputy Chief of Regional Security Police (known in Burmese as Nay Htin Apphwe), U Myo Zaw Win, raided the home of Ismail (son of) Yunose. They searched his home accusing that he possessed a Bangladeshi Mobile Phone. No phone was found. Yet, the police forced him to pay Kyat 50,000” said a local of Kyeing Chaung refusing to be identified.

Moreover, the police officers recently arrested and tortured two innocent Rohingya students for no reasons.

“On August 1, two Rohingya students of Islamic subjects hail from Myint Hlut (Mer Ullah), sourthern Maungdaw, visited Kyeing Chaung as it was post Eid occasion. While they were repairing their motorcycle in Kyein Chaung Market, the BGP from the said station arrested them for no reason. They had all necessary regional travel passes with. They were beaten by the police in their camps for many hours. They are:

1)     Hf Nobot Ullah (son of) Noor Hussein

2)     Hf Nurul Hoque (son of) Noor Hussein

At the end, another local Rohingya named U Idiris from Kyein Chaung came up and helped them for their releases by paying Kyat 50,000 to the police officers” an eye-witness reported.

The above-mentioned police officers and their aides are of Rakhine extremist background and have the records of harassing and plundering Rohingya passers-by in the past waiting at the bridge on Taungpyo-Kyeing Chaung Expressway. Besides, they have once gang-raped a Rohingya woman while passing through the bridge.
