Maungdaw, Arakan State (Rohingya Vision) — Myanmar’s Border Guard Police arrested a Rakhine man for possession of drugs such as Yaba tablet in Maungdaw Township last Saturday, according to the reliable sources.
The arrested Rakhine man is identified to be Maung Kyaw Thar (son of) U Aung Paik hails from ‘Attet Phyuma’ village in northern Maungdaw. The BGP arrested him while he was passing through the gate of BGP’s check-post in ‘Ngakura village’ under the commandment region (နယ္ေျမ) 5.
“The BGP stopped him and investigated him under suspicion. Upon investigations, the BGP found out 5,000 Yaba (WY) Tablets with him.
He was detained in the BGP station for one night. And the next day, he was sent to Buthdaung prison” said an eyewitness.
The Rakhine people in the villages such as ‘Ngakura and Kan Pyin’ used to live their lives by catching crabs and selling them in the bazaars/markets. Now, they have become rich by exporting WY tablets to Bangladesh via the boat jetties nearby the villages.
Although the BGP and the village administrations are well aware of the illegal drugs business by the people, no one takes any actions. They pretend as if they know nothing.
They take actions against only those who do not pay bribes to them.
