BGP Police Get Drunk and Severely Torture a Rohingya in Northern Maungdaw

Maungdaw, Arakan: Around 10PM on June 15, 2014, the commander of Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) camp at Ye Aung Chaung under Taungpyo sub-township, northern Maungdaw, got drunk and severely beat a Rohingya while on sentry duty. Every night he gets drunk and tortures Rohingya people, according to a villager of Ye Aung Chaung.

“Bodi Alam (son of) Sultan (of age 35) is local of Quarter 2, Taungpyo sub-township, northern Maungdaw Township. On 15th June 2014 night, he was on sentry duty at sentry post by the camp of Border Guard Police (BGP) of Ye Aung Chaung village under the same sub-township. Meanwhile, around 10PM of the night, some BGP personnel arrived at the sentry post.

Then, the in-charge of the police squad put his gun on the shoulder of Bodi Alam and fired once. He shoved his gun at Bodi Alam. He beat him with his gun. Therefore, he (Bodi Alam) received severe injuries on his face” said a villager of Ye Aung Chaung.

“The commander of the BGP camp is a Rakhine extremist from Minbya Township. He always gets drunk and become savaged every night. He tortures people in the region” he added.
