Authorities Compel Rohingyas to Destroy Religious School in Maungdaw
Maungdaw- Authorities threatened and compelled the Rohingya people through order to destroy a rebuilt religious primary school at Kiyari Pran, 15 miles north of Maungdaw on 10, August, according to a local.
The school was constructed with woods and bamboos roofed with straw last a few years ago. It was leaning down day by day for which it had become unsuitable to run the classes. So the committee of the school took a decision to rebuild it with bricks and tin sheets by collecting charity form the villagers.
According to their decision, they constructed it completely and had been running the classes for about two months. One day, a group of Border Guard Police from Maungdaw camp along with some Buddhist Extremists, 26 in total, came to the school, took some photographs of it and went back. But the villagers became anxious as the notorious Buddhists might attack there by hook or by crook.
In the last week, the township administrator of Maungdaw sent an ordering notice to the committee to destroy the school. They were threatened of imprisonment if it was not ruined as per the order of administrator.
Being threatened and compelled by the authority, the Mosque Committee has destroyed the school on Thursday, August 10, 2016 which was completely constructed at a cost of a huge money contributed by the villagers, he added.
A religious teacher said, “There is still religious restriction strictly for the Rohingya Muslims not to be able to exercise their religion despite the NLD government is in power that promised the people to ensure the equal human rights including religious right for all ethnic minorities in Myanmar.”
