Acres of Rohingyas’ Lands Confiscated by Local Authorities in Maungdaw
Village heads collaborated with U Nain Aung Thin, the head of Land Registration Department and Fishery confiscated acres of lands of the Arakanese Rohingya people for their own use in southern Maungdaw, Arakan, complained a local.
The village head of Go Du Tha Ya, U Tin Aung and Abu Kalam of Zaw Matet village tract together with U Nain Aung Thin arbitrarily seized 50 acres of the poor Rohingyas’ pasture showing the excuse of making garden. Besides, they confiscated 63 acres of cultivable lands of Rohingyas nearby the pasture for cultivation and gardening.
Rohingya land-owners have not been cultivating the lands because of fear of the Moughs since the violence of 2012 and the local authorities have taken the chance now.
Another local said, “The land owners have the registered documents from their ancestors but the local authorities do not care them as they are from the ethnic Rohingya minority.”
The poor land-owners are crying in search of justice from the authorities concerned but nobody hasn’t paid heed to them yet.
