Maungdaw, Arakan State (Rohingya Vision) – A Rakhine extremist, also 969 leader, threatens and harasses local Rohingya Muslims going for prayers in northern Maungdaw Township, whereas he frequently marauds into Rohingya owned properties, according to the reliable sources.
The extremist, U Aung Tin Kyi, also holds a position of headmaster of a Post Primary School (Annex Middle School) in ‘Zeepin Chaung’ village. He is said to have strong connections with both Education Minister and gets protection from Border Guard Police (BGP) from Camp 10 under Commandment Region (နယ္ေျမ) 4.
“U Aung Tin Kyi always trespasses into Rohingyas’ fishery ponds and catches fishes and prawns without permission of the owners. When the owners try to stop, he has them arrested by the BGP. The BGP gives protections to him.
He is also the headmaster of Zeepin Chaung (Zeeyaung Khali) village. Although there have been several complaints against him to the township education ministry, the education minister (ၿမိဳ႕နယ္ပညာေရးမွဴး) has not taken any actions and transferred him to another place. The reason may be that he is said to have highly connected with the township education minister.
He also harasses the local Muslims when they go for Ishaa (Night) Prayer and Fajr (Morning) Prayer” said an elderly local on the condition of anonymity.
“We want the authorities to take actions against this extremist. We want him to be transferred to another place. If he remains, he will make the situation worse and will create problems among the locals as he is a leader of 969 extremist movements in northern Maungdaw” he continued.
The extremist 969 leader is not a local of Maungdaw but originally hails from ‘Ann’ Township of Arakan state.
