By Rohingya Mirror

Buthidaung, Arakan State (Rohingya Vision) — Myanmar’s military arrested more than 100 Rohingyas in Buthidaung Township last Friday and forcibly took them as porters to the frontline of its ongoing battle with Arakan Army (AA), according to the reliable local sources.

It has been learnt that the 100 people taken as porters included both the adults and the children. They were arrested on pretext of carrying rations for the military camps at the ‘Saing Din’ mountain in northern Buthidaung where there is a battle going on between Myanmar’s Military Battalion 552 and Battalion; and Arakan Army (AA).

“Around 6:00PM on Friday, 20 military personnel from the battalion 552 arrived at the junction of ‘Thin-Gana’ village and arrested 30 Rohingya passers-by irrespective to adults and children. And then, they arrested 20 more people from ‘Yin Ma Chaung Taung’ village. They all were taken to the battalion 552.

Again at 9:00PM, around military personnel from Battalion raided Rohingya homes in Thin-Gana village and arrested 30 more people. Besides, the military from battalion 552 and 564 arrested 40 people at the market of ‘Taung Bazaar’ village on Sunday afternoon” said a local of Buthidaung asking to withhold his identity.

“The military said that they would be used to carry rations to the military camps and short-term porters at the battlefield. However, their family members are extremely worried that they would be used as the human shields at the frontline of its battle with the Arakan Army (AA) in northern Buthidaung Township” he continued.
